MeBioS Biosensors: Fiber optic SPR biosensors

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is probably the best known method for online detection of biological binding reactions. The  technique could offer valuable information for any industrial applications. Nevertheless, SPR is rarely used outside research centra, because most commercial available systems are expensive and require specialized staff. In the search for more convenient SPR-sensors, the traditional prismbased systems have been replaced by fiber optic designs. In this research, we introduce a low-cost fiber-SPR-sensor in combination with the versatile aptamer-technology. The fiber-optic SPR-probes are useful for remote sensing, continuous analysis and in situ monitoring . By combining our specific aptamer technolgy and fiber optic SPR technology we are able to make very versitaile, compact and low cost biosensors. This fibers are easely multiplexed into a fiber network.

We recently published results where different protein-DNA and DNA-DNA interactions are accurately monitored. (Pollet et al., Biosensors and Bioelectronics, 2009).
